Designed to hold a standard-sized tea light candle. This one was made from a Bigleaf Maple that had fallen from the top of a watefall, and came to rest underneath it. My partner saw it on several of our hikes, getting home and kicking himself for not collecting it. After a while, he became determined and had to go back for it. We're glad he did. These candle holders are beautiful. It comes from the same tree any other Bigleaf Maple pieces you find on my website.
Maple trees have been associated with many things, they repel evil, bring in love, and promote success, longevity and healing. When you bring this piece home, take a moment to examine it. Get to know it, and feel the energy it brings with it. Between the wood and the waterfall, this piece has carries a healing energy.
Spalting is the pretty black lines and discoloration throughout the piece. It happens when fungi work their way through the wood and take nutrients from it. Catching it at just the right time is imperative for keeping the integrity of the wood so it can be worked without crumbling. Even just a little too late can ruin a piece.
